Famous artist, Kelsey Montague, coming to Glasgow Middle School

On April 11, 2018 Glasgow Middle School will become the only school in the country where the students worked directly with artist Kelsey Montague to create an original, one-of-a-kind mural on their campus.  Montague, a Denver based muralist is the creator of the #whatliftsyou movement, which resulted from her images of wings with the inspirational hashtag and became an internet sensation.

Montague studied in Florence and got her degree in Art from London's Richmond University.  She has since traveled the world creating murals, created two adult coloring books, designed a coat for the GAP and been featured in countless publications from The Smithsonian to Forbes.

A meet and greet with the artist will be held at Glasgow Middle School on Wednesday April 11 at 6:00 p.m.  Tickets are available at the school for $5 or can be purchased at the door.

Jennifer Fritsch, Glasgow Middle School art teacher and professional artist arranged for the project. Each year for the past four, she brings and internationally known artist to Glasgow Middle School to inspire students and community members.

"I saw Kelsey's wings on social media several years ago and went to see her amazing wings in Nashville in early 2017." said Fritsch. "She has an amazing story, desires her artwork to inspire others, wants her artwork to be interactive and I thought she would be amazing to come to GMS. We have been planning this since March 2017. We will have the only mural in the state of KY and the only school in the nation."

According to her website, Montague describes herself saying, "I’m an artist that is very interested in exploring how public art, interactive art and social media intersect. My murals specifically invite people into a piece and then invite people to share their experience online. I believe that art should not be separated from the human experience. Instead the human experience should have a hand in creating the art itself."
