Jeremi Simon returns to Bowling Green for an afternoon acoustic set at Mellow Matt's Music and More with friend Chris Rutledge before their performance at Tidball's Sounds and Spirits with People-Proof on Thursday.

While solo at the independent record store and with his band The Cartoons, Rutledge paid tribute to his friend and musical hero late David Berman and played some of his favorite Silver Jews tracks. Initially, Rutledge booked his trip from San Francisco to Nashville to see his friend Berman perform instead.

Simon performed new works, including "Favorites," a song in the memory of those in the Bowling Green music scene who have passed away.

"It seems like the theme this year is death," Simon said quietly in between songs at Mellow Matt's. "...I'm losing all my favorites."
