Mammoth Cave

Mammoth Cave National Park will offer four free cave tours on Wednesday, December 5 in honor of the National Day of Mourning for President George H. W. Bush. The park visitor center, scheduled cave tours, and the Lodge at Mammoth Cave will all continue operations as normal, but administrative offices will be closed for the day.

The closure and fee free day was directed through an Executive Order issued by President Trump in order for Federal employees to join in remembrances of the forty-first President who passed away on November 30.

The park will offer free Historic, Gothic Avenue, Mammoth Passage, and Mammoth Cave Accessible cave tours. Tour sizes for the free tours are limited and cave tour participants must pick up their ticket in the visitor center before going on a tour. The free tours are offered under the following schedule:

Gothic Avenue Tour: 9:30 am

Historic Tour: 10:30 am

Mammoth Cave Accessible Tour: 11:30 am

Mammoth Passage Tour: 2:30 pm

Tours vary in length and difficulty. Tour participants can read tour descriptions of the free tours and all tours offered on our website: For more information about Mammoth Cave National Park please follow us on Facebook or Twitter.
