Mammoth Cave National Park is extending the public comment period on the Environmental Assessment (EA) of the park’s proposed Fire Management Plan until February 15, 2019. The original comment period ended on January 7, which was during the recent partial government shutdown due to a lapse of appropriations.
Park managers determined an extension was necessary because the public was unable to access the EA documents and could not provide comments via the National Park Service’s Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website as it was deactivated during the lapse.
Comments on the proposed project may be submitted using the PEPC website which can be accessed at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/maca and then following the link titled “DRAFT MACA FMP EA.” The website is still in the process of updating project information, but anticipates the restoration of full functionality by Monday, February 4.
Comments will also be accepted by U.S. Mail addressed to Superintendent, Mammoth Cave National Park, P.O. Box 7, Mammoth Cave, KY 42259.
