New Beginnings Therapeutic Riding will hold their inaugral Pins and Ponies charity bowling event February 1 at Southern Lanes. New Beginnings Therapeutic Riding is a non-profit 501c3 that relies on donations, grants, and fundraisers to operate on a day to day basis.
NBTR serves individuals (ages 5 and up to adults) with behavioral, emotional, mental, and physical disabilities in Warren and surrounding counties through the power of horses. The goal is to strengthen the minds, bodies, and souls of individuals by providing a recreational outlet that has therapeutic benefits. The responsibility of riding and caring for a horse encourages self-esteem, confidence and coordination. The aim of their program is to see positive changes in the riders physically, emotionally and spiritually.
NBTR is one of four PATH Intl. (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International) Premier Accredited Centers in Kentucky and the only one West of Lexington. This means that NBTR has reached or exceeded the standards to ensure we are providing the best quality and safest atmosphere possible to individuals with disabilities. PATH Intl. has been in existence since 1969 and has studied and researched its standards, precautions, and contraindications to horseback riding and allows accredited centers to use this information to ensure safety and qualified services.
NBTR began in 1997 with three students, three horses, and 20 volunteers and to date have served over 900+ students in Warren and surrounding counties with over 11,000 volunteer hours. They have 3 part time paid staff and are totally volunteer based.
All proceeds from Pins and Ponies will benefit adults and children with special needs. The cost is $375 per team to participate with a minimum of $75 per person.
